It is a pleasure for me to serve as one of your elected Catholic School Trustees for Oakville and Chair of the Board for the 2019-2020 school year. I want to take this opportunity to thank you and provide you with the highlights of the last few months.
Every time I visit a school I witness the great work and dedication the teachers and staff put forth as they strive towards our Board’s goals of making sure that every student achieves to his or her potential, believes by celebrating and putting into action our Catholic faith and belongs, no matter his or her differences. Three very simple words that are at the very core of our safe learning environments.
I am happy that only after 4 months, with a group of primarily new trustees, the Board has already resolved long outstanding issues over executive compensation, reviewed numerous policies, and is actively engaged with committee work. I have visited many schools, engaging with teachers, students, and school councils. I have helped serve breakfast through school nutrition programs. I have attended science fairs, career fairs and speech competitions. Our Trustees are engaging politically by meeting with our local Mayors, MPP’s and other influencers, advocating for the releasing of the necessary funds for renovations, expansions and building of schools so desperately needed to handle the growth in our Board.
The months ahead promise to be challenging, given the recent announcements from the Ministry of Education. You can find the Board’s response to these measures in a recent letter to the Ministry of Education. Read it here, and feel free to forward it on to your friends and family.
I want to leave you with the assurances that I will remain active and visible, and that I will always be focussed on what is best for the students who attend our Catholic schools in Halton.
I welcome and encourage you to reach out to me with your questions and concerns at DeRosaP@HCDSB.org, Phone: 416-938-2529.
I wish you a very blessed Easter, surrounded in the company of those you hold dearest!
