April 2019 Newsletter

Welcome to all of my fellow Halton Hills residents.  We are getting a glimpse into warmer weather,  which brings hopes of longer and brighter days. As of this writing, we are entering into Holy week and all of the blessings that brings to us and our loved ones. Please enjoy a safe and happy Easter season.

We are well into our 5th month with a relatively new Board of Catholic School Trustees (8 out of our 9 Trustees are new to the role) and have been working very diligently to become knowledgeable regarding all the important issues and elements that are facing our Halton Catholic District School Board.  I feel confident that your Board of Trustees will represent all stakeholders and perform very well.

As this is my first newsletter as a Trustee, I would like to make you a promise that I will use all of my talents and abilities God has blessed me with to make informed decisions in the best interest of all the students and stakeholders.  We are lucky to have a solid senior staff at the Board level who are valuable assets and will provide competent direction within our Board. Within the past few months working with the Board Staff,  I have witnessed firsthand the intelligence, passion, integrity, experience, and desire to develop our schools into examples of  leaders within the Catholic  School system.  I believe we have the best Staff within our Halton Catholic District School Board. I have been lucky enough to be able to attend many school events so far and it has just underlined all the positive events that our schools are creating within Halton Hills and abroad.  I would like to thank the school communities of St. Brigid, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Francis of Assisi, Holy Cross and Christ the King for welcoming me into your schools and allowing me to see how wonderful you all are. Keep the invitations coming!

At the Board Table, Trustees will begin an in-depth analysis of the current year budget in preparation for our deliberations on the budget for the 2019-2020 school year.  We would appreciate your prayers as we go through the process, particularly this year. The education system has been hitting the headlines as of yet, with many proposed changes, potential reductions, funding issues etc.   As a taxpayer, please feel free to contact our Provincial MPP, Education Minister and Premier with your thoughts, comments, suggestions etc. Remember: silence is acceptance.   We are currently within a growth Board and Halton Hills is growing each year and will continue to grow within the next 10 -15 years.  We will all work together to ensure this growth comes with it a positive result. We have certain projects that are still on the Capital Funding radar, which we will continue to investigate with the Ministry.

I understand that we all lead busy lives, but I just wanted to communicate that all Policy and Board meetings are posted on YouTube for anyone to view.  It is a great way to keep abreast of issues being discussed within the Halton Catholic District School Board.
