Hello to all,
I am so glad that a provincial settlement was reached with our CUPE support staff, and schools were able to open this past Monday! While we value all of our staff and respect the rights of our unionized employee groups to engage in job actions, we also know that the past week was very stressful for many of our families struggling to make childcare arrangements in the event of a strike. We are all grateful that a settlement was reached.
As we continue into the school year, it is my hope and prayer that all students are deep into their studies at school, involved in school clubs, sports and various initiatives, being of service to those around them and growing in their faith.
We had great news for the St. Michael’s school community that recently received funding approval for renovations with the addition of a library, a classroom and daycare facility. This will be fantastic for the school community as they forge ahead together in faith and education.
The policy for Optional French Programming for French Immersion and Extended French that I initiated has passed second reading. We are currently waiting for a staff report on understanding the issue of sibling acceptance and cross boundary priority for families in the program.
I believe diverse programming is a benefit to our students at HCDSB. I believe budget dollars are best used for students in the classroom and programming. As such, I have asked for a staff report on the possibility of Gifted programming in secondary schools.
I will continue to strive to work together with you to ensure your children’s success at HCDSB.
Please feel free to contact me via phone or email. I will endeavour to be of service to you and your family.
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I wish you a blessed time with your families.
~ O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures for ever. ~ Psalm 136
